Gunder Frank R.I.P.

Foi já há alguns dias, a 23 de Abril, mas só agora dei conta da morte de Andre Gunder Frank, intelectual, economista e historiador. Ao longo dos seus 76 anos de vida escreveu 40 livros, 140 capítulos em livris editados e mais de 300 artigos. Pessoalmente, marcou-me o "ReOrient: Global Economy in the Asian Age". Com contradicões (quem as não tem), mas também com uma grande dose de honestidade intelectual, Gunder Frank foi dos mais inovadores intérpretes do Marxismo na segunda metade do século XX.
Em Janeiro de 2005, Gunder Frank publicou este artigo no "Asia Times": "The Naked Hegemon", ou o Rei Vai Nú.... A Z net, revista on line inspirada por Noam Chomsky traz este artigo sobre a vida de Gunder Frank. O autor conta o encontro com aquele que é provavelmente o mais influente intelectual libertário do mundo:

"I brought Gunder and Chomsky together in 1998 at Noam's office, as they both graciously agreed to serve on my dissertation committee. One of Gunder's first utterances was, "you were right about my Leninism and I should have read the anarchist reading list you sent me thirty years ago." In his fatalistic way, though, Gunder declared, "but I would not have listened anyway." This was Gunder with his usual contradictions and honesty following a purer historical materialism, in which things don't happen until the underlying conditions permit".
