Um tiro no pé?

É o que afirma Frank Ching sobre a Lei Anti-Secessão na edição de hoje do South China Morning Post. Basicamente, Ching interroga-se sobre a oportunidade da aprovação da Lei Anti secessão pela Assembleia Nacional Popular. Numa altura em que os ânimos pró-independência estavam refrados em Taiwan, depois das eleições Legislativas de Dezembro que deram a vitória às forças que defedem a manutenção do status quo, num clara rejeição de um avanço para a independência, e semanas depois de Chen Shui Bian, o presidente conhecido pela tendência independentista, ter afastado a hipótese de uma declaração dde independência, a aprovação deste diploma é, para este esritor e colunista de Hong Kong, um tiro no pé:
Ironically, Taiwan's current laws also do not allow secession. the National Security Law, promulgated in 1987, says that public demonstrations "must not violate the constitution, advocate communism or the division of the national territory". Beijing is fearful that, left unchecked, all these references to Taiwan and the mainland will be excised. The danger is that the passage of the new law will prvoke Taiwan into changing the status quo in precisely the waythat the legislation is intended to prevent.
